Victorian Corset Making
SITU University announces our first class of 2020…Introduction to Victorian Corset-making with Guest Instructor, Lori Edwards!
Lori is a long-time Somewhere in Time, Unlimited (SITU) Member and experienced costumer; and she has taught corset-making in the Pacific Northwest for many years. Join us in this 3-session class to make your Victorian Corset, a foundational garment for every costumer’s wardrobe.
In addition to the workshop fee, each student will pay the instructor for a specialized corset-making kit (about $35 – $45 per person), payable at the first class session. Cost for each person will vary a bit, depending on supplies needed to customize the corset to your figure.
The prerequisites for this class are that you bring your own sewing machine and that you have garment-making experience.
Students will bring/supply the following:
Materials:
1 yard of 45” or 60” fashion fabric (decorative or plain; for the outer corset layer)
1 yard of 45” or 60” canvas or duck fabric (for the inner foundation layer)
1 package of 1/2-inch extra wide double fold bias tape to bind top and bottom of corset
2 packages of wide single fold bias tape for bone casings
Supplies:
Sewing machine (you must know how to thread the machine and run it yourself)
