Elegant Travel of the 1930’s & 1940’s
Sunday, April 19, 2016
Members and friends of the Historical Costuming group, Somewhere in Time, Unlimited (dressed in 1930’s and 40’s attire) gathered on a Spring afternoon in Seattle, Washington. We met for a private tour of the Boeing Museum of Flight’s vast collection of aircraft. The focus of the tour was on the aircraft that were built, flew, and carried passengers in during the 1930’s and 40’s.
We reminisced about the elegant travel of a bygone era, when the stewardesses were chosen for their height and visual appeal, as well as being a Registered Nurse. Air travel for passengers was a new industry with lots of blue sky ahead!
After the tour of the museum, we popped into the cafeteria “Wings” for a late lunch while we viewed beautiful contemporary aircraft land, or taxi, down the runway. Below, you will find a fun collection of images recorded from the day. We hope you enjoy them and will join us in the near future for some frivolity at an upcoming gathering of SITU again!
